How to Handle Your Camera Continued.

Take advantage of the enviroment around you. There are inexpensive gadgets around today that will aid you in the use of your camera, and will ultimately help improve the pictures you produce. One of these gadgets is a bean filled pod. If you use the camera outdoors this offers a excellent alternative to carrying a tripod around for the day.

Here is the camera pod being used to steady the camera on a large concrete block. Although it is not a complete replacement for the tripod, which still remains the ultimate camera steady, it is a great asset to have in your camera bag. They come in different sizes to match the many designs of camera and because they are soft it is easy to fit one in a bag or the smaller ones will fit in a pocket. This model has a plastic bottom so can be placed on damp or rough surfaces and will protect the camera from getting wet or damaged. A simple wipe over with a damp cloth and the pod is ready for another day.

The monopod is another device for steadying your camera. The model you see above is a lightweight version suited to a compact or mid sized bridge camera. On the top of the monopod is a thread that screws in to the tripod fitting on the bottom of the camera.

On this model the top mount is hinged to help with tilting the camera. The leg is extendable and by planting the foot on the ground, up and down movement is elliminated leaving the camera free to swivel from side to side.
