Digital Camera Types

The Digital SLR is a professional style of camera that is comprised of two elements, the body that includes the viewfinder, and interchangeable lenses.Digital SLR The viewfinder on a DSLR is used to frame the pictures and is a direct view through the lens and not a representation on a screen like on a compact camera. Some modern DSLR cameras are now offering a live screen veiw, but the veiwfinder is still the most reliable option for accurate framing and focus, but the screen adds extra shooting options in situations were the camera may have to be held above or a crowd or low to the floor.

These cameras offer many features and a complete set of manual control settings as well as fast picture taking and processing speeds that makes them capable of taking multiple pictures every second. The image sensor in a DSLR is the largest of the different types of camera, and the materials used to manufacture these cameras, makes them very rugged.

The Compact Camera comes in many different shapes and sizes. they have a lens built in to the body of the camera. Most modern compacts offer optical zoom, whilst older models may only offer digital zoom.

Compact Cameras

This type of camera uses a screen on the back or a screen within the viewfinder to allow the user to frame their shots and preview the images on the memory card. The image sensor used to capture the image coming through the lens is the smallest of the different types of camera.

The Bridge Camera is a combination of the two. Shaped like a DSLR with larger lenses and good optical zoom capabilities, also a good set of manual controls.

Bridge Camera

The lens in this type of camera is built in and not removable, though many do offer a filter thread for attaching filters and conversion lenses.

Bridge cameras have image sensors that are larger than compacts but smaller than DSLR.

Though more rugged than a pocket sized compact, they generally don’t have the strong chassis of the DSLR.
